Overview
For travellers who want to go deeper, the Great Kashmir Explorer spends a night in each of the valley's four great destinations. Staying over in Sonmarg means you see the Thajiwas Glacier in the quiet of early morning, long before the day-trippers arrive.
The pace is relaxed, the stays are comfortable, and there's room for detours — the saffron fields of Pampore, the walnut-wood carvers of Srinagar's old city, and the 9th-century temples at Avantipora.
Day by day
Airport pick-up and transfer to your hotel. In the evening, a shikara ride on Dal Lake past the floating gardens.
A guided walk through Srinagar's old city — the wooden Shah-e-Hamdan shrine, Jamia Masjid's 370 cedar pillars and the spice bazaars — followed by an afternoon in the Mughal gardens.
Follow the Sindh river up to Sonmarg. Spend the afternoon walking in the meadows ringed by glaciers and fir forests.
An early pony ride or walk to the Thajiwas Glacier before the crowds, then drive to Gulmarg via Srinagar.
Ride both phases of the Gulmarg Gondola to Apharwat Peak (weather permitting). Free afternoon for walks, golf or snow activities in season.
Drive to Pahalgam via the saffron fields of Pampore and the Avantipora temple ruins.
Explore Betaab, Aru and Chandanwari valleys, with time for a riverside lunch and a walk in the pine forests.
Transfer to Srinagar airport for your flight home.
